Is it recommended to raise one's hands during the du`a in the Friday sermon?

Question:

We know that the Hanafis (according to what I read on this site) don't raise their hands during the dua portion of the Friday khutba. But what do Shafi'is say about this? Should we do it or not? I haven't been able to find an answer to this in any books.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

It is generally recommended to raise one's hands and say "ameen" during a du`a. This applies both during the Friday sermon and outside of it [h: since there is nothing that indicates otherwise in the Shafi`i works].

Now What?

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Knowledge is only through study." While some knowledge can be gained from reading or casually listening to lectures, the best means to gain knowledge is through finding a qualified teacher and then setting up a systematic program of learning. Picking up a book or reading an article and trying to figure things out on our own is no substitute for learning from someone who has a direct link to our living tradition.
