Pre-ejaculate fluid, madhy, calls for washing and ablution before praying

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question:

I just need to ask a question about reality. Say a man marries his wife, and the marriage is still new. Of course they may go out one day, and give each other a small kiss and hold hands wherever they are. This is ok since they are married. Obviously madhy will flow from the man during this time. During their outing, the reach Zuhr time, and the man wants to go to Masjid for Zuhr. How will he be able to pray if he is najis? Should he delay the prayer until he gets home? Sorry but I would just like to know what and how it’s done in everyday life. Like I know my one cousin who just got married (this was a while ago), and I remember that he was very loving with his wife and everything, but time when Salah came he would only perform wudu and pray with us. Please help on this one.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

a) pre-ejaculate invalidates ablution (wudu);

b) a small amount of filth (less than 5 cm in diameter) is excusable and does not affect the validity of ablution and prayer. Such filth is recommended to remove, but not obligatory.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam

Now What?

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Knowledge is only through study." While some knowledge can be gained from reading or casually listening to lectures, the best means to gain knowledge is through finding a qualified teacher and then setting up a systematic program of learning. Picking up a book or reading an article and trying to figure things out on our own is no substitute for learning from someone who has a direct link to our living tradition.
