If a small amount of water, less than ten square cubits in surface area, is affected by something legally considered filth (najas), no matter how small in quantity, it will be considered impure. If such water were to get onto somebody’s person or clothing they would have to wash it off in order to pray if the area of clothing affected is the size of a dirham (about 6cm in diameter).
There is no reason why this should be considered difficult or burdensome. One should bear a number of things in mind:
Only if absolutely certain that filth had fallen into a body of water can it be considered impure. If one has any degree of doubt at all concerning the matter one considers it pure. Based on this one should have absolutely no worries about rinsing one’s mouth out. This is an established sunna and thoughts leading one to leave it are clearly satanic in origin.
One’s clothing will only be considered impure if one is certain that water is impure has come into contact with one. If one has any doubts about this one would have to consider one’s clothing pure.
If the water is considered to be flowing, it will not be impure even if it comes into contact with filth unless some traces of the filth shows in it.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Knowledge is only through study." While some knowledge can be gained from reading or casually listening to lectures, the best means to gain knowledge is through finding a qualified teacher and then setting up a systematic program of learning. Picking up a book or reading an article and trying to figure things out on our own is no substitute for learning from someone who has a direct link to our living tradition.
